HOW THE GROUP PROCESS WORKS
The Group is informal. Members do not seek to be professionally published, nor focus on style, composition, or writing skills.
Emphasis is on brief experiences about your life that are narrative, and anecdotal in nature. Our definition of anecdote is: a short, entertaining, or even serious account of a personal experience. The idea is to capture and recreate your experience. The term writing a story is being defined as recreating your life experience one slice at a time.
Story length is to be around 750 words maximum, less is better.
Members will read aloud their work and receive positive, and affirmative comments. Listeners may ask for elaborations or inquiries that might help them recall new ideas to write about.
We do not analyze or give writing advice. We make this a fun time to help us better remember our own experience, to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
The meetings are monthly and are scheduled three months at a time. Members come to the meetings with a hard copy of a story from which to read. The hard copy is left with the facilitator.
Stories are designed into publishing software, including period photos supplied by the author that support the story.
Stories are emailed back to the authors and alumni in pdf format. Unless the participant indicates otherwise, all stories will be posted on this web site for all to enjoy! See the menu: Read Authors A-Z.
